RAVI Ratiram has filed nomination papers to contest the Couva North constituency in the August 10 general elections contrary to media reports that he was replaced.
This was confirmed by political leader of the United National Congress, Kamla Persad Bissessar, after she filed her nomination documents on Friday.
On Friday morning it was reported that a senior party member had said that another candidate had been selected to fight the seat.
Persad Bissessar said, “I am the leader of this party, I am also the head of the party’s screening committee. I have no knowledge of what you are speaking about. The candidate for Couva North is Ravi Ratiram. If there are allegations take it to the police. If you have any issues against him that are illegal, take it to the police”
“Our candidate for Couva North is Ravi Ratiram,” she added.
The UNC leader was asked about her chances in the upcoming polls and this is how she responded, “If we lose Siparia, we lose elections. If we lose Siparia, we lose every single seat. Siparia is Kamla and Kamla is Siparia.”
Persad Bissessar is coming up against the PNM’s candidate for Siparia, Rebecca Dipnarine.
