Tobago Sees Decrease in Covid-19 Cases

FOR the first time in weeks, Tobago has seen a decrease in its seven-day rolling average for Covid-19 cases.

At the weekly Tobago Division of Health Wellness and Family virtual press conference on Thursday, Covid-19 response team member for the County Medical Office of Health (CMOH) Dr Anthony Thompson said the information was encouraging and welcomed news for the medical team.

He said, “We have had 12 weeks of uninterrupted increase, this is the first week, we have had a decrease in the weekly number of new cases for the period of reporting.”

For this week, Thompson said there were 89 new cases on the island, a 5% decrease from the previous week.

There was also a decrease in the island’s active cases.

Tobago reaches its 500 vaccination daily goal 

With reference to vaccination General Manager of Primary Care at the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) Dr Roxanne Mitchell said that Tobago had reached its goal of at least 500 people being vaccinated in one day. She said that goal was reached on Wednesday.

To date, Tobago has vaccinated 9,234 individuals in total with 7,951 receiving a first dose- 4,149  AstraZeneca first dose administered and 3,802 Sinopharm administered.

Dr Mitchell added that 1,187 second doses of AstraZeneca vaccines have been administered  with 51 Sinopharm second doses being given. The rollout of second doses Sinopharm vaccine began on Wednesday.

She said the Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort site which was originally used for the administering of the AstraZeneca vaccine only will now be used to also give Sinopharm vaccines.
