A SPECIAL Reserve Police officer, of Valsayn, has been charged with rape of his ex-girlfriend.
The 55-year-old officer was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with a surety when he appeared virtually before Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay at the Arima Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
He was charged by PC Garcia of the La Horquetta Police Station on Monday with rape, grievous sexual assault, common assault and choking with intent to commit an indictable offence namely rape.
The accused is expected to reappear in court on July 21.
According to a police report, on January 14, a woman was at her home, when her former boyfriend visited and requested to speak with her. She allowed him into the house where he allegedly held her down, had sexual intercourse with her without her consent, committed an act of grievous sexual assault and choked her during the act, it is being alleged.
Investigations were coordinated by Snr Supt Paponette, ASP Etienne and Insp Ward and supervised by acting Sgt Haynes and Cpl Ramcharan attached to the La Horquetta Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who were assisted by officers attached to the Cyber and Social Media Unit. As a result of the investigations the accused was arrested and subsequently charged.
