THERE are no plans to extend the use of the Shaw Park Complex drive-thru vaccination site in Tobago as yet.

This is according to Tobago’s Regional Health Authority (TRHA) General Manager of Primary Care Services Dr Roxanne Mitchell.

At the Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development virtual press conference on Thursday,  Dr Mitchell said that the TRHA has been given the site of Shaw Park Cultural Complex, Scarborough for one week only to conduct mass vaccinations.

She said, “There are no plans at present to extend beyond Friday, Friday is the last day for Shaw Park. We would look at the numbers and the uptake and then we will let that drive us in terms of whether or not we will bring it back on down on this side sooner rather than later.”

Dr Mitchell reminded Tobagonians that if they were planning to go to Shaw Park for their vaccination that they have until Friday to do so.

The mass vaccination site at Shaw Park is a collaboration between the National Gas Company(NGC), Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), and Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA).

She indicated that while the TRHA  had plans to bring the site at Shaw Park back on for second vaccination shots in future, they were currently looking for suitable sites in the east of the island to continue the  mass vaccination.

Dr Mitchell also said that while the mass vaccination continued there has been a decrease in the number of persons getting vaccinated on a daily basis.

Referring to a chart earlier in her presentation she said, “We were doing up to 600 doses a day. We have fallen significantly in terms of delivering about 300 plus vaccines per day going forward.”

However, Dr Mitchell noted that persons were preferring to use the drive thru service due to its ease of flow in getting the vaccine as well as others opting to go to the Magdalena Grand Resort due its atmosphere.
