BE vigilant when conducting online transactions.

This especially, if you have to meet up in person to either sell or receive items ordered online.

The advice comes from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) following a robbery on Friday.

A Trincity man who made arrangements online to meet with a customer interested in purchasing two cellphones was relieved of the items after he proceeded to a new meet-up location to complete the transaction, a release from the TTPS on Saturday stated.

According to a police report, around 7.17 pm on Friday, a 34-year-old online seller was delivering two cellphones valued at $8,650 to a customer at Bypass Road, Arima.

However, the meet-up location was changed at the last minute resulting in him proceeding to Punnette Avenue, Pinto after following a GPS coordinate.

He met with the suspect in a desolate location along Punnette Avenue and while he was distracted, the customer snatched the package containing the cellphones, ran north, and escaped through some bushes.

Enquiries are continuing.
