Residency Status Preserved for Nationals Outside T&T

PERMANENT resident of Trinidad and Tobago who have left the country between March 22, 2019 and March 22, 2020 and have not been able to return will have their status preserved.

This according to a release by the Ministry of National Security on Thursday.

The release stated: “The Ministry of National Security wishes to advise Permanent Residents of Trinidad and Tobago, who departed our jurisdiction, between March 22, 2019 and March 22, 2020 and who were unable to return within a 12 month period, due to border closures as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, that their Resident Status will be preserved, provided that they return to Trinidad and Tobago on or before December 31, 2021.”

The T&T borders were closed on March 22, 2020 in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country. The Government intends to open the borders on Saturday.

  1. What about school and university students who came back to Trinidad in early March 2020 and who left Trinidad in August 2020 to return to their studies? Can they also qualify for this extension?
