PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley is expected to return home on Thursday.

The Office of the Prime Minister in a statement on Tuesday said that he completed his final medical consultation in Los Angeles, California, earlier that day.

“Dr Rowley’s medical test results were favourable,” the office stated on social media.

The Prime Minister completed his medical consultations while citizens in Trinidad and Tobago were preparing for a tropical storm warning that has now been discontinued.

Finance Minister Colm Imbert is acting in his position.

Dr Rowley had extended his stay in the US after attending the Ninth Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, California.

He initially left on June 6. The Summit ended on June 10.

The Opposition has said that medical tests should not take so long to be conducted.

Dr Tim Gopeesingh, speaking at a political meeting of the Star team for the United National Congress (UNC) internal elections last week, said medical tests could take only one day to complete.

And speaking at an Opposition press conference on Tuesday, Chaguanas West MP Dinesh Rambally questioned where was Rowley as the country was preparing to face the effects of a potential tropical cyclone.

He said, “Our position is that there must be transparency even when it comes to (medical) matters of those.”

Rambally said while nobody wanted to know “the nitty-gritty” of the prime minister’s health condition it should be known why he was still abroad “and why we have someone who is not up to prime minister statute acting as the prime minister and continues to leave this country in this state of abeyance.”
