The Manzanilla Mayaro Road is the main road connecting Sangre Grande to Mayaro along the eastern coast.

Works were conducted by Namalco Construction Services Ltd and Kall Co Ltd and included the installation of over 30 steel sheet piles, which were donated by National Energy.

Just before Christmas, National Energy donated over 1000 sheet piles to the Ministry of Works and Transport which will be used to repair critical landslips throughout Trinidad.

Paray advises, “Please note that the Manzanilla by-pass roadway is now opened for vehicular traffic. The roadway is a temporary fixture so road geometry may not be perfect. All motorists are advised to limit the speed while using the bypass. I again encourage all motorist to exercise extreme caution when using the bypass road.”

Road signage and other warnings will be placed during this week and the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is in the process of turning the streetlights around to provide illumination in the night.

On November 26, due to excessive rainfall and flooding, a major part of the roadway broke away into the sea.  The temporary diversion began in December with intention of completion before school restarted in the new year.

The works were completed at an approximate cost of $12 million said Sinanan.

The minister also said that designs were in place for a permanent road structure which should be completed by next month following which the tender process will begin.

Dr Ragbir thanked the Ministry of Works and Transport and the contractors for bridging the gap between the two constituencies. Dr Ragbir further commended the contractors for hiring people within the area to work on the project.
