WELL it’s about to begin… the noise, excitement and goals.

This should be the best Euro ever because we are thirsty for it after so much waiting.  So this tournament founded in 1958 will begin with its latest edition at 3pm today with Turkey vs Italy.

Group A: Italy, Turkey, Wales and Switzerland.

Italy has one trophy, way back in 1960, and has not since put their hands on another. They are hoping this is their year. It can be, given the record they are coming with into the tournament. The Azzurri have not lost a game since 2018 and not conceded a goal for all of 2021. This is a strong team that is not only solid in defence but also good in attack and like to have ball possession. Overall they are a great team and it will take a great team to beat them. In their last game before this tournament they scored four against the Czech Republic with some spectacular football.

Possible starting eleven according to uefa.com: Donnarumma; Florenzi, Bonucci, Chiellini, Spinazzola; Barella, Jorginho, Locatelli; Berardi, Immobile, Insigne.

According to the Italian coach Roberto Mancini, “The opener is always difficult and there is plenty of emotions. we can do it.”

Turkey has appeared in four Euro finals with a best of a semi-final appearance in 1996. They are not to be underestimated because it is a very talented and hardworking team.

In my opinion the hardest continental qualification is in Europe, any team here has a lot of pedigree.

Senol Gunes said,  “The result we get in the first match is important: a draw or win can cause confusion in this group.”

Clearly turkey is out to cause an upset and if they do this will be a super start to Euro 2021.

Possible starting eleven according to uefa.com: Uğurcan Çakır; Zeki Çelik, Merih Demiral, Çağlar Söyüncü, Umut Meraş; Okay Yokuşlu, Ozan Tufan, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Cengiz Ünder, Kenan; Burak Yılmaz

Prediction

This should be a very good game and a cracker of an opener. Italy has a lot to prove and the home crowd will expect nothing less than a resounding victory.

I predict a 2-0 win for Italy and a great start to the tournament.
