EMA Looks into Noise Pollution at BLCA

IF the event managers for the party held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Sunday was in breach of noise pollution levels, the relevant action will be taken against them.

The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) in a statement on Monday stated that it has responded to the several complaints of loud noise at the stadium in Tarouba.

The EMA stated that officials were present at Josie’s Jamishness 2022 and that a noise variation was issued between the hours of 6 am to 11 am.

The decibel limits specified were 70dBA from 6 am to 8 am and 80dBA from 8 am to 11 am.

The event was scheduled to be held from 3 am to 11 am on Sunday morning.

Event managers were advised to lower the sound levels as it was above the prescribed levels.

The Environmental Police Unit (EPU) is preparing a report based on the sound levels recorded.

“Provided that a breach of the prescribed levels of the Noise Pollution Control Rules 2001 (as amended) is detected, the EMA will initiate enforcement action against the event managers,” the EMA said.

Member of Parliament for Naparima Rodney Charles and local government councillor for Marabella South/Vistabella Marcus Girdharie had issued a press release complaining about the disruption and asked Member of Parliament for San Fernando East Brian Manning to intervene.

The EMA confirmed that Manning contacted the Authority on the issue.
