ATTORNEY GENERAL Reginald Armour, SC, says he’s humbled after a no-confidence vote against him was defeated by members of the Law Association on Friday evening.

In a release just after 8 pm on Friday, Armour said, “I am humbled by the outcome of today’s Special General Meeting of the LATT. I am grateful for the vote of confidence by the majority and I acknowledge and respect the concerns of those in the minority.

“I wish to thank my colleagues in the legal fraternity for taking the time to participate in the process. In addition, I would be remiss of me to acknowledge the Las Association for the manner in which it managed the entire matter.”

The no-confidence motion against him as well as one to call on him to resign were held at a special meeting that was in-person and virtual at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain.

Armour was called upon to resign or be fired after it was revealed that he was a defence attorney for former finance minister Kuei Tung and his partner Renee Pierre in a criminal matter arising out of the construction of the Piarco International Airport more than a decade ago.

The State of Trinidad and Tobago had filed civil proceedings to recover monies from the alleged fraud during the construction of the airport. This case is based on similar facts to that of the criminal case. When Armour became AG two of the defendants in the Miami case Kuei Tung and Steve Ferguson filed an application to have him disqualified since all civil litigation of the State must be brought in the name of the attorney general and Armour was once an attorney representing Kuei Tung.

He was automatically disqualified by the Miami court but has since appealed that decision.
