In a release on Tuesday, minutes after it was reported that Dr Rowley tested positive for the coronavirus, Alexander said at 71 years, the prime minister has numerous underlying conditions including heart disease.

Dr Rowley recently had an angioplasty procedure.

Alexander said he expected that Dr Rowley would recover from Covid-19 and this would make the point that the elderly and those with aggravating conditions do not have to succumb to this virus.

He said, “When he walks out recovered, his first action should be to ask the President to repeal Public Health notice 34 of January 2020, bring to an end all lockdowns and restrictions, and open back the full economy while keeping borders closed and entry allowed based on quarantine for another phased timeframe as herd immunity builds throughout the country.”

Alexander said while Dr Rowley was the worst prime minister the country every had he is also a human being, “and while I believe he should have been fired from office and investigated for all manner of acts and actions, I do not harbour ill feelings toward him as a person and wish him a full recovery.”
