Three of the new infections were found to be contacts of recently positive Covid-19 patients while the remaining five were pending epidemiological investigation.

Since testing began in March, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the UWI site have tested 9,450 samples.

Fifty-nine patients are still at hospital – 43 at Caura and 16 at Couva – with five to join them, bringing that total number to 64.

As cases continue to increase daily, the Ministry has urged persons with Covid-19 symptoms to call 877-WELL or 800-WELL (9355) for guidance.

For individuals who are severely ill, they are advised to call 811, the emergency hotline, or call ahead to the Accident and Emergency Department of their nearest hospital for help or go in immediately.
