OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has again opened her arms to anyone who wants to join forces with her political party in booting out the People’s National Movement (PNM) Government.

With the date for the Local Government election set for August 14, she said a unified force for this election would signify a victory in the follow-up general election.

She was speaking during the United National Congress (UNC) Monday night forum in Sangre Grande.

Persad-Bissessar said the UNC has already started meeting with various groups, holding discussions on national issues and there was a section of the population who do not vote because they have had no representation for years.

She said, “The UNC is the only national party who would welcome them and say let us work together. We have done it before, we have brought disparate groups to come together to form a mighty force to unseat and remove this wicked PNM Government and tonight I make an appeal, let us all unite and come together to remove the wicked Rowley Government.”

Persad-Bissessar continued, “We have been holding discussions with other groups and I am letting you know that we would begin further discussions in the coming weeks with anyone of the smaller parties who are willing to fight the local government elections together with the UNC as a united force.”

She said, “If we can achieve this and work together over the next two years, this Local Government election will be the first step towards the next big step towards removing the Rowley government.”

Screenings for the Local Government election continue for the UNC.

Persad-Bissessar said she was heartened to see the overwhelming support from persons offering themselves for service as well as the party’s supporters who accompanied them to the screenings.

But she said  she had one caveat – that the parties must not show any disrespect for UNC members.
