THE United National Congress (UNC) Khemraj Seecharan has secured the district of Debe South for the UNC.

Although less than half of the electorate showed up to vote in the bye-election on Monday, Seecharan was able to secure 1,650 to win the local government electoral district seat for the party.

The Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP)’s Lorenzo Sammy secured 175 votes while the People’s National Movement (PNM) Judy Sookdeo garnered 25 votes.

The votes were collected from 13 polling stations in the district with a total electorate of 7, 124.

The results were concluded around 8 pm.

The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) chief elections officer Fern Narcis-Scope had told AZPNews.com earlier on Monday that the voting was undergoing smoothly but as expected, the voter turn-out was low.

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar during the UNC’s virtual report on Monday night said she was not surprised at the results given the treatment the country had received under the PNM administration.
