THE Ministry of Health will now be hosting weekly two virtual media conferences to update the country on Covid-19 developments instead of three.

This is one of the announcements made by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh on Saturday during the ministry’s press conference.

The minister also announced that the World Health Organization (WHO) approved the Pfizer vaccine for children ages five to 11 and details of that national vaccination programme were still being worked out.

Deyalsingh said the ministry was changing the communication strategies to the public and would be focusing more on reaching people where they are which includes social media.

He said the ministry needed to have more intimate conversations with the public in addressing their various concerns.

Deyalsingh said, “As our response to Covid changes and evolves, coming out of lots of studies, our communication also has to change and evolve. The Ministry of Health will be seeking from next week to have much more direct communications with members of the public especially using social media platforms because their questions need to be answered, they have their own concerns.”

Deyalsingh added that he has asked the Corporate Communications department to send more health experts on the television and radio stations, especially on morning shows.

And the ministry will continue to issue the daily Covid-19 dashboard update.

“If there is something absolutely necessary that happens between a Saturday and a Monday, we will have a press conference,” he said.
