Oropouche West Member of Parliament, Dave Tancoo, is calling for the names of the investigators probing the issue of the unreported money in the Auditor General’s report for the financial year ended September 30, 2023.

During the United National Congress (UNC)’s media conference on Sunday, Tancoo asked for comprehensive details regarding their selection process, terms of reference, and the financial burden imposed on taxpayers.

Finance Minister Colm Imbert has a motion in the Parliament passed on April 26 to extend the time to submit the public accounts to the Auditor General and the time for the Auditor General to submit a report on the accounts to Parliament, under Sections 24 (1) and 25 (1) of the Exchequer and Audit Act, respectively.

Imbert said there were discrepancies amounting to approximately $2.6 billion in the 2023 public financial statements not being reported.

Tancoo said, “Ironically, despite Imbert’s utterances one week ago about the need to investigate and his buff that 1.4 million people should wait on the results of the independent investigation there has been no public statement about the start of any such investigation, no public naming of investigators, no deadline for investigation and report and no clear statement of the terms of reference of any such investigation.”

He said, “As such I call on Minister Imbert, having received the reports on April 24th to lay the reports in accordance with the law by the 23rd of this month, May 2024. Failure to do so will be a breach of the law,”

Tancoo said. “The country will look forward with great interest to see if these substantial office holders will ensure that the relevant laws are upheld. I am confident that good sense will prevail. The country awaits,”
