Sookdeo is PNM Candidate for Debe South

JUDY SOOKDEO is the People’s National Movement (PNM) candidate for the bye-election in Debe South to be held on February 7.

A release by PNM Public Relations Officer Laurel Lezama-Lee Sing on Thursday revealed that Sookdeo was selected after a virtual screening for candidates.

The bye-election has been called following the death of United National Congress (UNC) councillor Purshottam Singh last year.

Nomination day is on Monday and the UNC stated in a release also on Thursday that it has completed its screening process and a candidate will be announced in the coming days.

The release by the PNM stated: “The People’s National Movement has participated in every single election in Trinidad and Tobago since its inception: General, Local, THA and Bye-elections; and the Debe South bye-election is no exception. The PNM is committed to offering to the electorate of Trinidad and Tobago, a suitable option to be of service to the people.

“A virtual screening exercise was conducted today, Thursday 13th January 2022, to screen candidates for the bye-election for the Debe South Electoral District. Nomination forms from interested persons were submitted, and they appeared virtually before the Screening Committee.

“Following the Screening Exercise, a virtual special meeting of the Central Executive was convened to consider the recommendation of the Screening Committee.

“The People’s National Movement is pleased to announce that Ms. Judy Sookdeo has been selected as the PNM’s candidate for the February 7th bye-election for Debe South.”
