THERE is no geographical discrimination when it comes to landslip repairs says Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan.

Speaking during a press conference at the ministry’s Port-of-Spain office, Sinanan said the majority of landslips occur in South and Central Trinidad – over 70% of 407 landslips and government was working to fix the major ones.

Sinanan was responding to allegations that residents in particular areas were not being prioritised when it came to landslip repairs.

The minister said the protestors were a “group who feel they want revolution in Trinidad and Tobago” and he has gone at lengths that  proper information was being shared to the public.

The ministry’s deputy permanent secretary Navin Ramsingh also spoke in detail about the landslip situation in Trinidad at the conference.

On Saturday, Opposition supporters  began what they referred to as an “October Revolution” in protest action concerning the lack of repairs to landslips.

On Monday night, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar spoke about the “October Revolution” in her party’s virtual report.

She said, “ Tonight I tell you that the revolution has begun. This is not a revolution of violence, of ill-will or any malice to destabilise our nation. Our revolution would be a peaceful one united in purpose aimed at politically demolishing those forces which prevent the citizens of our nation from enjoying the standard of living they deserve and preventing our citizens from accomplishing the goals they have and prevent them from progressing.”

She said the corruption, neglect and mismanagement of the Government have spread like a virus to every public institution plunging citizens into a national crisis.

“For too long they have burdened you with high taxes without equitable returns in our own lives. For too long they have abandoned the issues we need to live, such as your right to proper roads, jobs, affordable food, addressing crime and even education for our children,” Persad-Bissessar said.
