MORE than 200,000 customers of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) from Oropunce in the east to St James in the west were slowly getting water in their taps on Friday evening.

This after four days without water due to what WASA described as “technical” works on a 48-inch pipeline at the Caroni Water Treatment Plant.

Acting CEO Kelvin Romain, Head of Operations Shaira Ali and Manager of Corporate Communications Daniel Plenty held a press conference at the site of repairs on Friday. This after one was held near the same spot on Thursday when Romain had promised repairs to be completed by 4 pm that day.

But, Friday morning, made it the fourth day that customers along the East- West Corridor all the way to St James were without water.

Romain said the repairs were completed but there was still seepage and the line would have to be condemned and by-passed. But, he said customers would be getting water in their taps without giving a definite timeframe.

Plenty dismissed reports on social media that the line fabricated to replace the damaged part was too short.

He told AZP News, “No truth to this,” and promised a formal statement.
