OVER the next few days, citizens should look out for some cloudy periods at times, with showers in varying areas and the chance for thunderstorm activity developing in some areas.

And the present, rainy conditions are due to the development, position and movement of sub-tropical storm Nicole.

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) in a weather update at 11.28 am on Tuesday stated that the storm was occurring to the far north-northeast, which has influenced the bands of equatorial confluence, out of the north Atlantic high-pressure cell, to create convergence and perturbations at local latitude.

“As a result, from late last night, we have been having cloudy conditions with showers and rain over broad areas and thunderstorm activity in some localities,” TTMS stated.

The forecast is for conditions to be partly cloudy with showers over a few areas and while there is some reduction in intensity, relative to Monday night into Tuesday morning, there is still a low to medium chance (30% to 40%) for thunderstorm activity to occur.

TTMS stated that there was mild occasionally moderate concentration of Saharan dust in the atmosphere at this time.
