A TRINIDADIAN pundit living in Canada has asked the Canadian government to donate Covid-19 vaccines to Trinidad and Tobago.

In a letter dated June 25, Pundit Vijay Persad Seetahal of the Shri Krishna Dharma Sabha (SKDS) Hindu Temple in Brampton, Ontario wrote to Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau requesting that T&T be placed on Canada’s list of countries to receive donated vaccines.

Persad Seetahal wrote, “We in Canada are a multicultural society, we stand for our people and believe in equal opportunity. The Covid-19 pandemic will not dissipate unless the vaccines are distributed quickly and efficiently.

“We as the SKDS Temple are asking that you donate these vaccines as Covid has hit Trinidad and Tobago in a way unimaginable. Our people are suffering. By donating the vaccines, it would greatly reduce the death toll and distraught that is destroying our citizens.”

Persad Seetahal told AZPNews.com that the letter will be mailed later today (Tuesday).

He emphasised that the letter was not politically motivated in any way.

He told AZPNews.com, “I cannot see my people in distress.”

Earlier this month, Trudeau announced that 13 million Covid-19 vaccines would be donated to countries of lesser income.

Persad Seetahal added that he did not request any specific type or number of vaccines he would like to see donated to T&T.
