AS the country gets ready to celebrate Carnival in a different way for 2022, “pods”are being set up at the main Carnival hub – the Queen’s Park Savannah.

National Carnival Commission (NCC) chairman Winston “Gypsy” Peters explained that the pods (individual sections) will allow for persons vaccinated against Covid-19 to still party but within their personal groups.

On Monday, he gave the media a tour of the hub that is being dubbed “Carnival City.”https://www.facebook.com/mfmptown

Peters said, “Once you are in your pod, that is your space. We can’t hold more than 10 at a time in any space. So we have the pods that can hold six people in some of them and we have bigger ones that can hold nine persons so we are well within the confines of what you have to do in terms of cluster of persons.”

If it comes off successfully, this will be the first Carnival to be celebrated in public in two years. There was no public event last year. Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley had said with the introduction of Covid-19 vaccines, Carnival could be observed but in a different manner without the usual street crowds. Carnival, 2022 is scheduled for February 28 and March 1.
