THE Government has no problem in paying what is due to the five-member committee appointed to investigate the Covid-19 deaths in the various hospitals.

But Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is not aware of any particular fee.

And according to Dr Rowley some individuals render their services out of love for country.

The Prime Minister was asked about the remuneration package for the members of the committee by Member of Parliament for Caroni Central Arnold Ram during the Prime Minister’s Questions segment in Parliament on Wednesday.

Dr Rowley said, “I wish to advise the Member for Caroni Central that there are still people in Trinidad and Tobago who will do public service for the love of country and it is not every assignment that someone is asked to do that the major concern is how much they are paid.”

He added, “At this moment, I am not aware that there is any charge, but in the event that it arises and a stipend is to be paid, the Government will happily pay it for the services that we anticipate that they will provide.”

The five-member committee headed by Dean of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Faculty of Medical Sciences. Professor Terrence Seemungal, began their duties on Monday and are expected to complete their investigation by next week Monday.
