THE body of Basdeo Panday will Lie in Honour at the Rotunda of the Red House on Friday for public viewing.
This was revealed in a release from the Office of the Prime Minister – Communications on Thursday.
The term ‘lie in honour’ is used instead of to ‘lie in state’ since Panday was a private citizen and not a government official upon his death.
The release stated that the funeral or Panday will take place from 8.30 am on Tuesday at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts (SAPA).
It stated that the body of Panday will Lie in Honour, as a former prime minister, at the following locations for public viewing:
● The Red House (Rotunda area) – Friday January 5, 2024 from 10 am to 5.30 pm;
● Southern Academy for the Performing Arts – Monday January 8, 2024 from 9 am – 5.30 pm.
It stated that on Friday, the body will be transported to the Red House under military escort. The procession will begin at 8.45 am from Broadway, Port of Spain, then on to Independence Square south, proceeding west to Abercromby Street and north to the Red House.
