NO more lockdowns will be implemented by the Government to combat Covid-19 because the population has a better tool – the vaccine.
This was stated by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh at the ministry’s Covid-19 update on Monday.
Deyalsingh said both government and the economy have suffered greatly as a result of lockdown measures that were deemed necessary at the time.
He added that the new vaccination policy for government workers was not to punish anyone but to save lives since the population seemed to be oblivious to the grim fact of sometimes 30 people are dying daily as a result of the virus.
Deyalsingh said, “Both the business community who has everything to lose and the government who have everything to lose, the honourable prime minister has said that further lockdown after two years of this, is not the way to go, why? Because we have vaccines.”
He said, “Because we have vaccines that could avoid having to go the way of economic ruin which causes a whole set of economic problems.”
The prime minister, he said, took a decisive step for the holidays by announcing that all government offices will be closed from Christmas Eve till January 2 so to avoid further movement and increased the risk of contracting the virus by the population.
