Newsday Employee, Father Die From Covid-19

FOR the second time in a week, parent and child have died as a result of Covid-19.

Jennifer Mahadeo, a page planner for Newsday died on Friday morning, the newspaper reported.

Mahadeo, 41 was assigned to Newsday’s El Socorro office.

Her father Deonarine Mahadeo, 76, died on Tuesday after testing positive for the virus last Thursday.

On Wednesday, Mahindra Nigel, 38 from Siparia died  and his father Premnath Ramkalawan, 66, died on Thursday morning.

 

Newsday reported that Mahadeo’s family was concerned as to why Mahadeo was allowed to return home after being given medication  at the Chaguanas Health Centre.

Mahadeo leaves behind a six-year-old daughter.  She was described as a trusted friend and colleague.

“Newsday didn’t just lose a staff member, it lost a pillar,” a colleague said.

 

At the Prime Minister’s press conference on Friday, there was a strong, emotional appeal to everyone in Trinidad and Tobago to strictly adhere to all health protocols put in place in order to protect and preserve lives. Health officials strongly advised against visiting mothers on Sunday with Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh saying the best way to show  mothers love, is to stay away.
