More Showers as Adverse Weather Alert Discontinued

AS torrential rains and thunderstorms continued, several parts of Trinidad and Tobago experienced flooding due to a trough system.

On Wednesday, flash floods were reported in Maraval, Maracas St Joseph, Champ Fleurs and several parts of Port of Spain.

There were also floods reported in St James, Claxton Bay, Couva, San Juan, EMR and St Augustine and on several highways.

A video also circulated on social media which showed the St Joseph River along the Maracas Royal Road was near its threshold.

In an update, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) discontinued the adverse weather alert which was issued for Tuesday into Wednesday.

TTMS stated, “The most impactful weather has dissipated and settled conditions are present in most areas. Cloudy conditions will persist into the nighttime with light to moderate showers and/or periods or rain being possible overnight.”

The Met Office has advised persons to be alert and continue to monitor weather conditions and updates from official sources via www.metoffice.gov.tt and www.odpm.gov.tt.
