WHEN would Government install CCTV cameras at the Heights of Aripo, a place that has become a “dumping ground” for bodies?

This is the question being asked by Member of Parliament for Oropouche East Dr Roodal Moonilal, the day after another body was discovered in the area.

In a media statement on Wednesday, Dr Moonilal said the Government has also refused to implement any other proactive measures to combat the soaring incidence of crime in that and many other communities around the country.

“Failed National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds has acknowledged that half of the CCTV cameras are not working but has made no effort to rectify the issue or to provide a timeline for having it solved. The debacle is worsened by the Government’s decision to scrap the awarding of a contract for provision of CCTV cameras,” the MP said.

Dr Moonilal repeat his call for an independent and urgent investigation into the Digicel deal which Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley confirmed was halted.

He said, “The uselessness and bungling of the Rowley administration have now reached epic proportions while people are being slaughtered each day and Trinidad and Tobago has become one of the world’s most dangerous and brutal societies.”

On Tuesday afternoon, police reported that the body of a man had been found wearing a black jersey with white horizontal stripes, chequered coloured pants and black sneakers with white soles. He was found approximately five feet down in a ditch by a power-walker at about 4.34 pm.

On January 28, the decomposing body of Keithisha Cudjoe, 21, was found in Aripo almost one year after the body of court clerk Andrea Bharatt, 23, was found in almost exactly the same spot.

On April 8, Hinds in Parliament said: “Careful consideration must be given to site compatibility, including the availability of electricity supply, and the connectivity challenges at this remote location (Aripo Heights).”
