Met Office Looking at 2 Areas of Bad Weather

THE Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) is monitoring two areas of disturbed weather in the Atlantic.

In an update at 6 pm on Sunday, meteorologist Paula Wellington said, “Area2, at this time poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada and its dependencies.”

Area 1  is located approximately 660 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles, centred near 12N 55W and is moving west north-westward near 16 to 24 km/hr.

The TTMS stated “This area has a 40% (low/medium) chance of development into a tropical depression over the 48 hours.”

This system will likely produce gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall across portions of the Lesser Antilles overnight Monday into Tuesday.

“Current analyses suggest that on its projected track, the disturbance is forecast to reach the Leeward Islands by Monday night.

The second area of Disturbed Weather, Area2, is located approximately 1550 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles, centred near 14N 46W and is moving west southwest near 15 km/hr.

This area has a 30% (low) chance of development into a tropical depression over the next 48 hours.

The TTMS stated that it will continue to closely monitor these systems and will issue an update at 6am on Monday or earlier, if the situation warrants.
