Indarsingh said the recent reports were yet another failure of the Government to properly protect its citizens.

He echoed the Opposition’s call that the country needed new leadership and Dr Rowley needed to be removed from Office.

Indarsingh said, “In less than a week, reports have surfaced of killings of prison officers in Sangre Grande and Fyzabad. On Wednesday morning, we learnt that the home of another officer was shot at, with a police officer wounded in the attack. The image of prison officer Nigel Jones being killed in front his daughter, and the image of his four-year-old daughter running around frantically, in shock upon her father’s murder are now signature images of the Rowley-led PNM administration.”

The MP said following the news of the killing, he has been in contact with  Prison Officers’ Association (POA).

“I lament that the POA has been begging for measures and policies to be put in place to enhance the safety of prison officers, but these pleas have fallen on deaf ears. From securing the perimeter of the prisons to the provision of security systems for prison officers to legislative reforms, all measures advanced by the POA have been ignored by this Government, Indarsingh said.
