“Failed, clinically, inexperienced advisors.”

This is how former government minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh described the Covid-19 medical team on Sunday.

Trinidad and Tobago seems to be the worst in medical care for Covid-19 patients in the Caribbean, the former minister of education said during a press conference hosted by the Opposition.

He lambasted the Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh calling for him to be fired given what he claimed was his mismanagement of the pandemic.

He also criticised the policies recommended by Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram and other key health officials saying the entire parallel healthcare system was a failure with the increasing number of people dying daily.

He said to even consider having some sort of Carnival next year was “madness.”

Dr Gopeesingh said  Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, Deyalsingh and his team were only waiting on the World Health Organization (WHO) to issue press releases and make statements to the public congratulating themselves for what they think was a job well done.

“They said they have a field medical advisory team, and they keep repeating shallow slogans, they following the science,” he said.

Referring to the additional dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, Dr Gopeesingh said, “Prime Minister Dr Rowley must make a decision that all persons over the age of 60 with or without comorbidities must have a booster dose and stop playing foolishness with the issue of a third dose.”

The former minister of education also spent some time lamenting about the dismantling of the laptop programme especially at a time when almost every child in school needed one.
