Ghanaian National Charged for Passport Fraud

ANOTHER Ghanaian national has been charged for allegedly attempting to obtain a Trinidad and Tobago passport through false means.

Frank Asare, 46, of Diego Martin Main Road, was charged with one count of possession of a forged document and two counts of uttering a forged document, when he appeared in the Port of Spain First Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

He was charged by PC Noel Garcia with three offences on Monday.

The matter was adjourned to July 26.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) reported on Thursday that last November,  a man visited the Immigration Office, Knox Street, San Fernando, and had in his possession a forged Citizenship of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Certificate of Registration dated May 10, 2022, purportedly issued by the Ministry of National Security. 

That document was allegedly presented in support of an application for a Trinidad and Tobago Passport.

However, it was later discovered that the Citizenship of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Certificate of Registration dated May 10, 2022 purportedly issued by the Ministry of National Security was a forged document. 

On August 5, 2022 the defendant had presented to the Election and Boundaries Commission, Diego Martin Registration Area Office, the Citizenship of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Certificate dated May 10, 2022 in support of an application for a Trinidad and Tobago Identification Card, however it was later discovered that the said certificate was a forged document. 

Extensive enquiries were conducted during the period May to June 2023 by a party of officers, led by Ag Assistant Superintendent Bryon Daniel and included WP Inspector Mc Millan-Mohammed, Sgt Codrington, Cpls Emrith, Ramkumar, Ramberran and Pitt, PCs Edwards, Noel and Subran. 

A search warrant was later executed at the home of the accused where several documents were found and seized, the accused was then arrested. 

Investigations were supervised by Snr Supt Andy Teewarie and Supt Wayne Abbott, also of ACIB.
