A MEDICAL doctor who was fully vaccinated against Covid-19 died as a result of the virus on Thursday.
Former district medical officer of St George East, Dr Vinod Mahabir died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Arima.
Dr Mahabir also had pre-existing medical conditions.
Last week, he was admitted to the hospital after experiencing a cough. He tested positive for Covid-19 soon after.
Dr Mahabir is the husband of former independent senator Parvatee Anmolsingh-Mahabir and had established a private medical practice along the Eastern Main Road in Arouca. He also was an executive member of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha.
Dr Dhiyan Mahabir, who was his younger brother and a consultant at the San Fernando General Hospital, also succumbed to the virus, several months ago.
Several persons have remembered the doctor as a friend and a brother who was aware of national issues who have treated many.
