Explosion at Parkade in Port-of-Spain, 2nd Device Found

No entry to pedestrians as fire and police officers block off parts of Richmond and Queen Janelle Penny Commissiong Streets

 

PORT-OF-SPAIN – AN explosive device has been detonated in the parkade at the corner of Queen Janelle Penny Commissiong and Richmond Streets in Port-of-Spain. It went off just after 11 a.m. So far there have been no reports of any injuries.

Police have cordoned off the streets around the area and prohibited both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Reports said a second device has been found and bomb squad officers were on the scene.

The Ministry of Education on St Vincent Street as well as the Government Campus that houses a number of ministries including the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Works and Transport have been evacuated.

Traffic has backed up in Port-of-Spain and drivers with cars in the parkade are not allowed to get their vehicles until it is deemed safe by the bomb squad.
