MINISTER of Health Terrence Deyalsingh is urging citizens to exercise caution during the long Easter weekend.

Speaking at the Ministry of Health virtual conference on Wednesday, he encouraged citizens to practice “heightened vigilance and personal risk assessment” in all activities.

He said, “Too many businesses have suffered through the lockdowns, we don’t want to go back there and hopefully we’ll never go back there and too many people have died.”

Deyalsingh said, “The Easter weekend was a time to be aware, to protect yourself, your elderly at home,  your workplaces, and to protect our hospital system.

“We don’t want the post Easter period to be one  where the hospital starts to report higher levels of occupancy whether at ward level, ICU or HDU levels.”

He credited the country’s current situation with relaxed Covid-19 restrictions to the hard work of the medical teams and sacrifices made by the business community, places of worship and individuals.

Deyalsingh further warned, “Fifty percent of the population was unvaccinated, so any setting that you are in  whether  your workplace, a party or social setting, especially if someone is close to you without a mask, and you don’t know that persons, remember that person is a danger to yourself.”
