Quell the Decibel Commends No Fireworks at Nagar

NON-governmental organisation Quell the Decibel commends the National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC) and the organisers of Divali Nagar for their responsible decision to eliminate fireworks from this year’s festivities.

In a release on Monday, president of Quell the Decibel Marisa Ramnath-Garibdas said, “In alignment with the theme Dharti Maataa or Mother Earth, the absence of fireworks during the Divali Nagar celebrations demonstrates a commitment to environmental preservation and the well-being of communities and wildlife in the vicinity.

“Fireworks, although visually captivating, contribute significantly to air and noise pollution, causing distress to humans, animals, and the environment. The decision to forgo fireworks serves as a commendable example of environmental consciousness, highlighting the urgency to address the detrimental effects of such displays on
our surroundings.”

She said, “Quell the Decibel encourages other organisations and event planners to recognise the harm caused by fireworks and consider adopting eco-friendly alternatives for their celebrations. By embracing sustainable and quieter alternatives, we can collectively contribute to a healthier and more harmonious world.

“The organisation applauds the NCIC’s leadership in championing environmental responsibility and calls upon others to follow suit in promoting greener and more responsible celebrations.”
