CXC Exams End

APPROXIMATELY 31,400 secondary school pupils wrote the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) examinations which came to an end on Friday. 

On Friday, the  Ministry of Education stated in a press release that 22, 999 pupils wrote the Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC) and 8,392 wrote the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) between June and July of this year.

The ministry stated, “Despite the prevailing circumstances and logistical challenges, those charged with the responsibility for these critical examinations worked assiduously to assure our students the best opportunity for success. The execution of these examinations proceeded without major incident, which, especially in the context of the pandemic, is significant.” 

The ministry thanked all those who made the exams a success the Ministry of Health and the National Maintenance Company Limited (NMTS).   

 Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly said, “This examination comes on the heels of the SEA, and with little to no downtime, our citizens have risen to the occasion and demonstrated the resilience required to make progress in difficult times.

“In this, the first-ever virtual school year, our students; with the support of their teachers and parents, gave themselves the best chance of success. For this, the nation is grateful. For those students who may not have been able to participate fully in this examination sitting due to circumstances caused by Covid-19, the Ministry of Education stands ready to support you at the next available opportunity.  

“On behalf of the Government, the Executive of the Ministry of Education, Minister Lisa Morris-Julian and myself, I wish to express heartfelt thanks to all who were part of the process.”
