Charged for Unlawfully Killing her Husband

A MAN and a woman are remanded into custody after they appeared before a Couva Magistrate on Wednesday charged in connection with the death of Ganesh Deopersad.

Alisah Hosein, 26, of Cocoyac Trace, Tortuga Village, was charged with manslaughter of her common-law husband, Deopersad  while Aleex Lewis was charged with murder.

Lewis was charged on March 27, 2023, while Hosein was charged on Tuesday after Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul, SC, advised on the matter, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service on Friday stated.

The accused are scheduled to re-appear at the Couva Magistrates’ Court on June 7, 2023.

The release stated that on March 14, 2023, Hosein reported to police that around 12.40 pm three men entered the home, and threatened her with a firearm.

It stated that she reported that the men then entered the bedroom where her husband slept and shot him.

Additional reports stated that the men demanded monies from her and robbed her of a quantity of cash before escaping, the release stated.

Assistant Superintendent Steve Persad supervised the investigation while Sgt Smith led Homicide Bureau Region III officers, who made enquiries into matter.

As a result of intensive investigations, Lewis was arrested on March 27, 2023 and charged with murder. As investigators continued their probe into the matter, Hosein was arrested and charged with manslaughter on Tuesday.
