TRINIDAD and Tobago is under another Hot Spell Alert.
In a statement on Tuesday morning, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) stated that the alert started at 9.04 am on Tuesday and was expected to last until 4 pm on October 31.
It stated, “The month of October is the last month of Trinidad and Tobago’s heat season and over the next four weeks, daily temperatures are expected to reach near 34.0 °C or greater in Trinidad, and near 33.0 °C or greater in Tobago.
“The hottest time of the day is between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. In cities, urban and built-up areas, maximum temperatures are expected to be higher than 34.0 °C and ‘feel-like’ temperatures will likely range between 34.0 °C and 44.0 °C.
“These elevated temperatures, coupled with tropical moisture and light winds, are the primary drivers of intense, isolated daytime thunderstorms.”
It stated that there may be rainfall associated with the inter-tropical conversion zone (ITCZ) but this was was not expected to be frequent this month.
The TTMS advised people to wear appropriate clothing, stay hydrated at all times, keep out of direct sunlight to avoid sunburn, open appropriate windows, vents and doors in homes to ventilate at times.
T&T was under a hot spell alert on September 15, but the TTMS discontinued it on September 22.
