SINCE the physical re-opening of secondary school for forms, four, five and six, there have been 55 confirmed cases of Covid-19 cases in the school population.

This was revealed by epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds on Wednesday at the Ministry of Health’s virtual press conference.

The figures he gave were up until November 5 which were given by the Education Ministry with a breakdown of the school districts.

Dr Hinds could not say how many schools have been affected, as that information was not in the data provided to the Health Ministry.

He said, “Port-of-Spain and environs, there were five confirmed positive, for St George East, there would be 16, North-Eastern, 12, Caroni, three, for St Patrick, seven, for Victoria, five and for South-Eastern, seven. This is the confirmed positive cases for each of the districts.”

On October 4, physical school re-opened for only those who were fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

However, the Ministry of Education changed that policy and physical classes were resumed for all students in forms four, five and six regardless of their vaccination status.

This week, Tobago also reported that two schools had to be closed for sanitisation due to possible detection of Covid cases.
