SEATTLE – A tech engineer in Washington State has been arrested for stealing sensitive data from millions of credit card applications at Capital One.

AFP is reporting that the FBI has in custody 33-year-old Paige Thompson a former Seattle technology software engineer.

She was arrested after she allegedly boasted about the data theft, described as one of the biggest to hit a financial services company.

A statement from the US attorney’s office in Washington said, “The intrusion occurred through a misconfigured web application firewall that enabled access to the data.

“On July 17, 2019, a GitHub user who saw the post alerted Capital One to the possibility it had suffered a data theft.”
