THE yellow-level weather alert that came into effect on Tuesday morning has been extended.
The alert took effect at 2 am and was initially to end at 5 pm on Tuesday but is now extended to Wednesday at 12 noon.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) in an update on Tuesday stated that there continues to be a high (70% – 80%) chance of heavy showers/thunderstorms affecting Trinidad, Tobago and surrounding marine areas.
“These conditions are associated with the passage of an active tropical wave interacting with the ITCZ. Conditions are expected to intermittently deteriorate over the period,” TTMS stated.
By 4 pm, there were reports of flooding in five corporations, the Maraval River burst its banks, the Lady Young Road was obstructed by a fallen tree and Castara Main Road in Tobago had to be cleared of a fallen tree.
Gusty winds were also experienced in some areas.
