A CULTURAL troupe from Tobago sent to Brooklyn, New York to represent the island is in dire need of assistance from the Tobago House of Assembly (THA).

THA’s Deputy Chief Secretary Watson Duke travelled to meet with the troupe in New York saying he can only do so much.

He criticised the THA for not taking better care of their citizens representing them abroad.

In a video almost four minutes long posted on Tik Tok on Wednesday, Duke said the 27 individuals were poorly treated since arriving in New York four days prior, having to share a basement with rats, exhaust finances to travel to the necessary venues to perform and was in need of food until their return to the island on Monday.

Duke said, “They were not provided for beyond the ticket.”

He added that he can “only do so much.”

Duke called on the other THA authorities whom he referred to “hot shots” to act immediately to assist the persons who were helped by a member of the Tobago diaspora in New York.

“I am appealing to the THA of which I am part, but those who consider themselves to be the decision makers, those who consider themselves to be the hot shots in the Tobago House of Assembly, the policy makers and drivers of the system, to act wisely and do so now. Show Tobagonians you care about them,” he said.
