For the event, participants would be able to ride indoors or outdoors at their leisure in support of the 111 existence of International Women’s Day, which was celebrated annually on March 8.

According to the International Women’s Day (IWD), its origins began at an International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen in 1910, where  activist and advocate for women’s rights Clara Zetkin brought forward the conceptualisation, and all 100 women present from 17 countries agreed.

However, the IWD was first celebrated in 1911 in countries such as Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.

Today, the official colours for International Women’s Day were purple which signified justice and dignity, along with green and white.

TTCF has encouraged participants to share photos of their adventures via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with the hashtags, #iwdbike and  #ttcf.

Their post also encouraged persons to, “Ride to and support a women’s owned business; ride to and support a women’s owned bike shop; partner with a local women’s shelter and help them with resources they may need. Contact your region/state/province social services department and/or law enforcement department to find shelters close to you.”
