WORKS and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan says a temporary lane will be put in place to ease traffic congestion while repairs are undertaken to correct a land slippage along the Solomon Hochoy Highway near the Macaulay overpass.
He made the comment as he visited the area on Sunday.
Sinanan said road works in the area were being done at night. Last week commuters complained about long hours stuck in traffic because of the work site. Two commuters told AZP News that they took close to four hours from Port of Spain to Siparia.
The works minister said, “We are trying to manage this in such a way that whatever works being done, it will be done at night.”
Sinanan said there will be a third lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway to San Fernando.
He said, “This project is a temporary solution and might run us into $2.5 million. However, the money that is being spent here is really the extension of a third lane of the highway.
“So it is not like it will be wasted. If you notice we started the widening from Chaguanas to Couva and the idea is to extend the highway with three lanes all the way to San Fernando.”
