A Port-of-Spain magistrate has denied bail to a Cocorite man who appeared before her on Tuesday on gun and ammunition charges.
Akili Aquil, also called Super Muslim, appeared virtually before acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody.
He was advised of his right to apply for bail before a Judge in Chambers since this was his second firearm offence.
It is being alleged that around 10 pm on Sunday, Cpl Khan, constables Clement and Noreiga, stopped Aquil at Waterhole, Cocorite, where they allegedly found in his rear waistband, a Taurus pistol fitted with a magazine and nine rounds of nine millimetre ammunition.
Aquil was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition on Tuesday.
The exercise was coordinated by Ag Snr Supt Kelvern Thompson, and coordinated by Supt Smith, Supt Henry and ASP Baird.
The matter was adjourned to February 9.
