Submachine Gun, 2 Rifles Seized by Police

TWO assault rifles and a submachine gun are among a quantity of illegal items seized by officers. 

The items were seized during Operation Blue Line exercises, conducted across the Northern, North Eastern and North Central Divisions from Thursday night into Friday morning and in the Marabella district on Wednesday police reported.

In the most recent exercise, officers of the Pinto Police Post, Arima Municipal Task Force and Canine Branch, executed search warrants in the Carapo district, between 6 am and 10 am on Friday.

A silver Honda City motor vehicle was searched resulting in the discovery of two assault rifles, three magazines, one rifle suppressor, a quantity of ammunition, a quantity of camouflage clothing, a quantity of tactical clothing, two bulletproof vests and a pair of boots.  

The vehicle is believed to have been used in multiple robberies in the Northern Division.  

In the North Eastern Division, one man was arrested and a pistol and a quantity of ammunition seized by officers of the San Juan Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and North Eastern Division Task Force, during an Operation Blue Line exercise.

That exercise was conducted between 10.30 am and 3 pm, on Thursday in the San Juan district.  During the operation, Task Force and CID officers conducted checks in several areas in the Mt. Hope, San Juan and Santa Cruz districts.  

One 25-year-old male suspect of San Juan was held after he was found to be in possession of one firearm loaded with a magazine containing six rounds of ammunition.  

And, in the North Central Division, Task Force officers from Area East, conducted an exercise between 8 pm on Thursday and 2 am on Friday.  

During the exercise, officers intercepted a black Toyota Aqua motor vehicle which was reportedly taken from its owner at gunpoint in the Malabar district around 9.15 pm on Thursday.

Two occupants of the vehicle were arrested and a quantity of ammunition seized. Further investigations, resulted in a blue Honda Civic motor vehicle also being discovered abandoned along the roadway in Arouca. 

On Wednesday, a submachine gun and a quantity of ammunition were seized by officers of the Southern Division during an anti-crime exercise around 8 pm.

Officers proceeded to Old Train Line, West Bayshore, Marabella where a search of a bushy area resulted in one Tec 9 submachine gun fitted with a magazine containing 21 rounds of ammunition being found and seized.
