Senior Policemen in Court for Assaulting Woman

TWO senior police officers have appeared before a Chaguanas magistrate charged with assaulting a woman at the Chaguanas Police Station.

Snr Supt Samuel Seepersad, 58, of the Central Division, appeared before Senior Magistrate Wendy Dougdeen-Bally. He is charged with committing an act of harassment on a woman between March and June.

And acting Supt Rohan Pardasie, 58, attached to the Southern Division was charged with committing an act of indecent assault on a woman in 2014.

 Both offences were said to have occurred at the Chaguanas Police Station.

The magistrate granted Seepersad continuing bail of $100,000 to be approved by a clerk of the peace. He is to reappear on August 14.

Pardasie was granted $80,000 in bail and is to reappear on November 5.

The charges against the officers, who have a total of 77 years’ service between them, stemmed from investigations by the Professional Standards Bureau, headed by ACP Totaram Dookhie. Charges were laid by ASP Anthony Remmy.

Attorneys Kevin Ratiram and Renuka Rambhajan appeared for the officers.
