San Juan Retiree Starts 220 KM Walk Against Crime

A 66-year-old retiree will start a walk against crime from the Red House in Port-of-Spain at 6am on Friday.

Bhoopat Rampersad, of Don Miguel Road, San Juan, said the death of Andrea Bharatt, which has caused a number of candlelight vigils across Trinidad and Tobago, has “struck a nerve.”

The manager of the San Juan Youngstars Tassa Group intends to have the walk over a seven-day period.

Rampersad, an avid speed walker, said he would be using his hobby to mobilise the country in the fight against crime.

He said he will leave Port-of-Spain go along the Eastern Main Road to Sangre Grande and make his way to Mayaro, to Rio Claro, to Princes Town, to San Fernando and then use the Southern Main Road to Couva, to Chaguanas, to Curepe and finish at his starting point via the Eastern Main Road.
